Fexyn VPN vs Surfshark
Surfshark competes on per-device math and bundled extras. Fexyn competes on protocol and pricing honesty. The honest comparison.
Overview
Surfshark's pitch is unlimited devices on a single account. They run roughly 3,200 servers across 100 countries, ship Nexus (their multi-server routing feature), and bundle CleanWeb (ad and tracker blocking) and Bypasser (split tunneling). Pricing headlines around $1.99/mo, which is real if you commit to two years. Owned by the same parent company as NordVPN since 2022.
Fexyn is a younger company. Wyoming LLC, currently in early-access Beta with the Windows app available now. Smaller network, but a different protocol stack: VLESS Reality for DPI evasion, WireGuard, OpenVPN. 24-hour short-lived certs from Vault PKI. Regional pricing across 192 countries with no multi-year commitment required to get the tier rate.

Protocol support & censorship resistance
Surfshark ships WireGuard, OpenVPN, and IKEv2. NoBorders is their answer to restricted networks — it auto-detects filtering and switches to a less-recognisable protocol/port combination. It works on basic filters. Against modern DPI in Iran, Russia, China, and Turkey, it works inconsistently.
Fexyn ships WireGuard, VLESS Reality (XRay), and OpenVPN. VLESS Reality is structurally different from NoBorders — it establishes a real TLS 1.3 handshake to a real public website, then carries VPN data inside the session. To DPI watching the wire, the connection is indistinguishable from a real visit to that site. For users in heavily-filtered countries, this is the meaningful technical difference.
Security & privacy
Surfshark has been audited by Cure53 (browser extensions, server infrastructure) and they rebuilt their server fleet around RAM-only nodes following NordVPN's lead. They're registered in the Netherlands (changed from BVI in 2021), which puts them in the EU privacy regime — strong consumer protections but also under various EU data-sharing arrangements.
Fexyn isn't audited yet. The differentiator on the security side is the 24-hour short-lived certificate architecture from Vault PKI. Surfshark uses standard long-lived certificates. If a credential leaks, the difference is between "blocked when revocation propagates" and "dead the next day." For high-risk threat models — laptop seizure, border crossings — this matters.
Both are no-logs. Surfshark's claim is audited. Fexyn's isn't yet — see the [no-logs policy](/no-logs-policy) for the precise commitment and the open admission.
Pricing — the part where Surfshark's headline isn't what it looks like
Surfshark's $1.99/mo headline requires a 2-year commitment paid up front. The actual monthly rate is around $15.45 if you don't commit. The 2-year commitment auto-renews at the higher rate at the end of the term unless you cancel — a pattern that the FTC and several EU consumer authorities have called out across the VPN industry.
For users who can commit to two years up front and actually remember to cancel before renewal, Surfshark is genuinely cheap. For users who want flexibility, the math is closer than the headlines suggest.
Fexyn doesn't play this game. The price you see monthly is the price. Annual plans are discounted proportionally without requiring multi-year lockup. In Tier 4 markets (Turkey, Pakistan, Indonesia, Argentina, Russia), Fexyn's $2.99/mo monthly is cheaper than Surfshark's 2-year-commit price without requiring any commitment.

Bundled extras
Surfshark bundles CleanWeb (ad blocker), Alert (data-breach monitoring), Search (privacy-focused search), and Bypasser (split tunneling). Most of these are paid add-ons, but they're marketed as part of the Surfshark One bundle. For users who want a single subscription that covers VPN + ad blocking + breach monitoring, this is convenient.
Fexyn doesn't bundle. The subscription pays for a VPN. If you want an ad blocker, install uBlock Origin — it's free, open-source, and better than any VPN-bundled blocker. If you want breach monitoring, use Have I Been Pwned. The unbundled approach is by design; we'd rather not charge for things other people do better.
Verdict
Surfshark is the right pick if any of these apply:
- You need the VPN on many devices simultaneously (gaming console + smart TV + multiple phones + family laptops). Unlimited devices is real.
- You can commit to a 2-year up-front payment and will remember to cancel before renewal. The headline price is real for this user.
- You want bundled extras (ad blocker, breach monitoring) in one subscription.
- You need broader platform support today.
Fexyn is the right pick if any of these apply:
- You're in a country with active DPI filtering. VLESS Reality is the technical edge.
- You're in a Tier 3 / Tier 4 market and want regional pricing without committing to two years.
- You care about short-lived credentials.
- You prefer an unbundled VPN over a software bundle.
