How to watch Arabic TV abroad: Shahid, OSN+, beIN
The Arab diaspora is among the largest globally — significant communities in France (over 5 million Arab-origin), the US, UK, Germany, Brazil, Canada, Australia. Arabic-language streaming services serve a regional MENA market and geo-restrict to MENA IPs.
For diaspora users wanting Ramadan dramas, regional sports broadcasts, Arabic-language news, and Arabic-language entertainment, a MENA-exit VPN is the standard answer.
The Arabic-language streaming landscape
The major services:
Shahid (MBC Group). The dominant Arab streaming platform. Saudi-owned MBC Group's service. Massive library of Arabic drama (especially Egyptian, Syrian, Lebanese, Khaleeji productions), variety, MBC live channels. Ramadan dramas (musalsalat) released annually drive subscription spikes. Around $6-12/month depending on tier.
OSN+. Combined OSN (long-running Gulf pay-TV operator) and Anghami partnership. Catalogue includes HBO content for MENA region (different licensing from US/UK HBO Max), Western movies, Arabic productions, sports. Around $10-15/month.
StarzPlay (Lionsgate+). Now branded Lionsgate+ in some markets, Starzplay still in MENA. US Starz catalogue licensed for MENA, plus regional content. Around $10/month.
beIN Sports / beIN Connect. Qatari sports broadcaster. Holds many football and major sports rights for MENA region — Premier League MENA, La Liga MENA, UEFA Champions League some years, World Cup MENA. Subscription via beIN Connect.
Anghami. Music streaming. Spotify equivalent for Arabic-language music. Less geo-restricted than the video services but Arabic catalogue is meaningfully larger and more diverse than Spotify's Arabic offering.
Watch iT (Egypt). Egyptian state and entertainment content.
Viu. Asian (especially K-drama) content with Arabic subtitles. Available in MENA but with regional catalogue differences.
What you do not get on Western services:
- Ramadan musalsalat (the annual season-long dramas; central to Arabic TV culture)
- MBC's variety output (Arabs Got Talent, The Voice Arabia, etc.)
- beIN's regional sports rights (Premier League with Arabic commentary)
- Most of the historical Arabic film and drama archive
- Arabic-language news from regional broadcasters at native quality
Fexyn does not currently operate MENA exits
Honest disclosure. We have considered MENA infrastructure but do not currently operate servers in any Arab country. Our closest infrastructure is Cyprus.
Without a MENA exit, the Arabic streaming services geo-detect:
- Shahid checks IP against MENA region; refuses non-MENA
- OSN+ similar
- StarzPlay similar
- beIN Sports geo-checks aggressively (sports rights are most aggressively enforced)
For Arabic streaming today, providers with MENA exits work better. ExpressVPN operates UAE servers; NordVPN, Surfshark have varying coverage. Astrill operates regionally.
Where Fexyn is the right answer
The Fexyn use case for Arab users:
Arab residents in MENA accessing international platforms. Egyptian, Saudi, UAE, Tunisian users wanting WhatsApp calls (UAE/Saudi blocked), Skype, FaceTime, Discord, geo-restricted streaming. Fexyn Stealth (VLESS Reality with Vision flow) is designed for this. Arabic-language UI shipped. The UAE country page covers this in detail.
Arab diaspora using non-Arabic services from abroad. Diaspora in US/UK/France using local Netflix, Hulu, BBC iPlayer, German broadcasters etc. Fexyn exits in those countries work.
Travel through MENA with home-country streaming. Travellers in Cairo, Dubai, Riyadh wanting their home Netflix, BBC iPlayer. Cyprus or Frankfurt exit restores home catalogues.
Privacy for Arab users in heavy-DPI markets. UAE's TRA, Saudi's CITC, Egypt's TE Data all run network-level monitoring. Fexyn's no-logs structure is the privacy answer.
The beIN Sports specific angle
beIN holds substantial regional sports rights including the most-followed football leagues in much of MENA. For diaspora users abroad, beIN access is one of the most-asked use cases.
beIN's geo-detection is among the most aggressive of MENA streamers — sports rights holders enforce geo-fencing contractually with significant penalties. The IP-blocking is more aggressive than Shahid or OSN+.
For users specifically wanting beIN Sports from abroad: providers with Qatar or UAE exits, frequently rotating IPs, work better. Smaller specialised providers sometimes work better than the big names because their IPs are less-flagged.
Diaspora payment friction
Common pattern: family members in MENA pay for Shahid, OSN+, beIN subscriptions on their accounts; credentials shared within family. The streamers vary in account-sharing tolerance — Shahid is moderately permissive; beIN much less.
Some services accept international payment for diaspora users. Shahid in 2024 expanded payment options; OSN+ historically has been stricter. The picture evolves.
For users wanting to avoid the family-shared-credentials approach, third-party reseller sites occasionally sell MENA-region promo codes. Reliability varies; we recommend the family approach as cleaner.
Setup: Arabic streaming abroad with VPN
The pattern:
- Pick a VPN with MENA exits. ExpressVPN, NordVPN, Surfshark have varying coverage. Fexyn does not currently.
- Connect to MENA exit (UAE, Saudi, Qatar where available). Test on shahid.mbc.net.
- Subscribe (or sign in to existing account; account-region needs to match exit-region for new sign-ups).
- Stream.
Ramadan-specific demand
Ramadan is the high-demand window for Arabic streaming. The musalsalat (season-long Ramadan dramas) are the biggest subscription drivers; Shahid in particular sees substantial spikes. Diaspora users abroad want access to these in real time.
Ramadan 2026 was March 17 to April 15. Ramadan 2027 will be March 7 to April 5. The streaming demand window correlates; provider-side blocking sometimes intensifies during peak demand.
For users planning ahead: subscribe and test the VPN setup before Ramadan starts. The "I will figure this out during Ramadan" approach often runs into payment friction or geo-block surprises during the highest-demand window.
Frequently asked
What is the best VPN for Shahid abroad?
ExpressVPN with UAE exit. NordVPN UAE if it works on the day. Smaller specialised providers sometimes more reliable. Fexyn does not currently.
Will my Shahid subscription work from any country?
Existing accounts work via MENA-exit VPN. New sign-ups often require MENA payment.
Can I watch beIN Sports abroad?
Yes with a working MENA-exit VPN. The geo-detection is aggressive; not all VPN providers' MENA IPs work for beIN.
What about Disney+ in Arabic?
Disney+ has launched in some MENA markets with Arabic-language content. The Arabic catalogue on Disney+ from outside MENA may be smaller; check current availability.
Does Fexyn have Arabic-language UI?
Yes. Arabic is one of Fexyn's five supported languages. The UI is shipped; for inside-MENA users, this is part of why we are positioned for that market even without MENA exit servers.
What about Spanish Latin American streaming for users similar to Arab diaspora?
Different regional split; covered separately. Fexyn does not currently ship Spanish-language UI; that is on our roadmap as the priority sixth locale, partially driven by Cuban and Venezuelan users.
Try Fexyn free for 7 days — strong fit for Arab users in MENA accessing international platforms; less strong for Arab diaspora wanting MENA streaming from abroad. The UAE country page and Saudi country page cover the MENA-resident use cases in detail.
